When an exterior paint job fails early, the paint usually isn't the problem. The problem is what was under it.
Charlotte's humid summers grow mildew on the shady sides of a house, and spring pollen leaves a film on every surface. Paint applied over that film doesn't bond, and it starts to peel within a couple of seasons. That's why every exterior job should start with a wash.
Next comes scraping. Any paint that's loose or cracking has to come off, because new paint can only hold as well as the old layer underneath it. Bare spots get a coat of primer.
Caulk is the step people forget. Gaps around windows, doors, and trim let water get behind the siding. Old, cracked caulk should be cut out and replaced before painting.
Only after all that does the finish paint go on. It's slower than spraying over everything, but it's the difference between a paint job that lasts three years and one that lasts ten.
